The Life Cycle of a Contemporary Art Work: Conceptualizing and Planning

At this first professional development session in a series of three, teachers will explore the critical thinking and decision making process visual artists employ long before picking up tools to create a work of art.  Teachers will understand what critical thinking is and why it’s necessary for the art making process and for general learning, learn from real artworks and not reproductions, examine the pros and cons for presenting ideas through representation and non-representational visual art works, and develop strategies to engage students in thinking critically as the first step to the art making process.
